Coordination is never easy in a mind space fielding the need to stay totally off the radar. Walking around the city affords many missed opportunities in coincidental enough meet ups. Drop eight coins down to two and listen as the pay phones start going deaf. Problematic, questionable, clearly in need of telepathic powers to solve such future issues.
Toilets at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music are splendid, a fine work of craft with the doors opening out and the washing area proving spacious and warm.
Aimlessly searching for a phone outside the main halls proves hopeless and a weary transaction. Streetside hang up on Macquarie makes for a quick dash back in, fearful of missing more than just the singing.
Caroling in their own imitable style, the Song Company are at least ten minutes in before finding a seat on the wings. Ever on the look out for a familiar face in the audience, a distraction that yields less than impressive results. Furtively and festively fun, their compositions and executions are as generous as their demeanour.
Reading aloud from the books sitting centre of the stage, they bring about all sorts of animals to the yuletide air. Cats singing in the streets, a tale about an inchworm, even frogs get their time in the spotlight, jostling for some of that sweet reindeer space. Mbube/Wimoweh/The Lion Sleeps Tonight is beautiful and tops off the afternoon despite being a few songs before the final.
A phone presents itself in the exit, hidden away in plain sight for those walking through the glass corridor and around the straight to face entry of the Verbruggen Hall.
