Human Rights. Yes, a few days after it was announced that Beijing would hold the 2008 Olympic Games, it is still a reality. A mere four points seperated the Canadians from hosting. Even though I am Chinese—I think—and know no one in Canada, I was really hoping for Toronto. As the IOC even hoped for when handing them the games, the human rights issue would be seen to by the time the world came for a visit. That is a big gamble. An overjoyed official blurted, "the world accepts us!" which means—to me at least—that if you kill the human spirit you can be rewarded with hosting the most prestigious sporting event in the world. This frame of mind from the voting committee is like that of the Native Americans; teach children with a kind word and good examples, not violence and punishment.
They are encourageable.
