Wednesday sees the start of the volunteer training for the taxation office and the cloud of doubt still hovers above my co-conspirator. I have training in two days, she might not even get a start. Knowing this, I fully intend to waste both my time and their time by undertaking the training with the end result of either both in or both out. The weight of the threat is expected to increase as each training day passes. Faith in an organisation who deals with the information of millions so visibly—and invisibly—is set back due to this incident. Laughable? Possibly only if it were a paid venture. And then, only if it were tax deductible. Gone out the window.
Revelations on the stupidity of the general populace have been sent out to most households on the start of the new financial year. The Tax Office, in an agreement with Australia Post, have declared the following address as the destination for the 2001 non-lodgement advice forms:
AUSTRALIAN TAX OFFICEDependant upon the location of your home, the last line would be different from state to state. Most people in the past have copied such addresses verbatim, the result was a massive load of letters and packages all addressed to some PO box IN YOUR CAPITAL CITY. Not Sydney 2000 NSW or Perth WA 6000, but IN YOUR CAPITAL CITY. Leaving it as is, as the pamphlet states, should be fine, no need to alter the last line of the address. In fact, that would cause a problem. A horizontal rarity perhaps.
