Doctor Who just went ahead and changed the lineup with no apparent explanation. Between the episodes of "Checkmate" and "The Steel Sky" Vicki was gone and replaced by Dodo. Space pilot Steve was still there but he was introduced as Ian and Barbara left the Doctor. What made for even more of a massive question of sanity and lost days of usual occurrence were the constant snaps in and out of consciousness for what was a power nap from having to wake up way too early to a quaint place. That the episodes themselves were screened with no day in between as a buffer was even more of a strain keeping up.
