Last year's effort was down right amateurish. This year, however, was much more professional. First off the immense increase in space was excellent. Too vast in some areas but then better than rubbing up against some stinky guy with his armload of backissues. The signing area was well away from all the hussle of the stalls and took me only ten minutes to get all my comics signed. But then again, I only had nine to do. Three guys in a row had Walter and Loiuse Simonson do something like 500 comics between them. The anime area had these funky inflatable chairs that I never got the hang of and left soon after. The glaring light from outside made viewing a squinting affair. One of the voice actors of Dragon Ball Z made a promise to scream but left without stretching his chords. I left pretty early, first ever, didn't even buy any backissues either.
Without realisation I insulted Gary Lau right to his face. I also nearly crushed his drawing hand. Bought Knight Edge. A quick and easy enough read. The mid section proved to be the most enjoyable. At $4.50 this was my very first Australian made comic.
One main problem was my utter lack of preparation for the event. I caught the 395 bus to Moore Park, missed the stops and ended up at Maroubra Beach, then hitched a free ride on the 377 to Fox Studios. Brian Michael Bendis was already in his panel. I missed out on Virginia Hey. She looked a great sight more pleasing in person.
