Love: A Multiple Choice Question

Theatrics

Right on a Saturday night in the middle of Easter, finding a partner to front with on this musical was never an easy feat. Conflicting and overlapping invitations are enough of a problem without it all going to plan. Especially when it seems that mobiles die at times of final confirmation with the result ends up as a first.

Thanks to not finding an easy path along street signs toward the Stables Theatre in Kings Cross, made the ticket collection for Love: A Multiple Choice Question with around eleven minutes to spare.

Misreading all the unseen signs, this little one man production is not a play as first thought. It's a musical. Either way, it was all about love and the deception of perceptions. Sitting there, with a twisted back—courtesy of the creaky angle of the seats—it was a great thing to behold.

Jamie Jackson is a powerful singer and extremely talented in bringing out all these family members throughout the show. From an old aunt, debonair town Casanova and even a few other characters toward the end, he really nails their spirits in both song and tone. Absolutely fun in terms of character exploration and a sheer delight in watching Jackson sing such revealing songs. On the piano and in the shadows is SoHee Youn, the other half of the one man show, dancing on the keys with effortless flair and punctuation.

A late couple chose to sit right behind and half of the night is spent dodging their feet as they continually cross and uncross their legs. Space is a sheer premium at the back row. This still does not diminish any of the strong performance, too wild and fun a time to be spoilt by the mere nuisance of the man slumming his legs over onto the row in front.

Steps just outside, on the way toward Kings Cross station, "Love is a many splendid thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love." hijacks the brain loop, totally wiping out any of the stirring and original song lyrics in Love: A Multiple Choice Question.

Great as it is viewing alone, it's much sweeter sharing it with someone who would have been able to appreciate such a time and even front the other half of the ticket pair.
