Cutting a line through Pitt street mall, a queue of people all holding No Opportunity Wasted. Some were reading as others stood around looking at the crowd looking back at them. Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race and co-author of the book featuring a mid-air jump, signing at the table outside of Angus & Robertson.
Days in the lead up from Thursday built up a buzz of excitement and expectation. The reality and positioning of the situation all too clear through the haze maze. With no desire to actually buy a book (thanks to review material piling up), or even holding onto a DVD of The Amazing Race, there was no reason to stick around longer than catching a glimpse of the Kiwi signing and smiling to the gathering throng.
All those people standing in the midday sun for close to or even over an hour, waiting for a signature. Like times of waiting in line at cramp comic book conventions. Standing and standing for a chance to say, "how many can you sign?" and then off to the floor to hunt down some back issues of Bill & Ted's Excellent Comic Book.
