Not Lent

Comics

Cursory glances at a few brown paper bags scares any mundane morning. Super hero, super hero, super hero, sci-fi, super hero, humour, super hero, super hero, humour, thriller, super hero, fantasy and super hero. Just a sampling endemic state of purchases within the last couple of months alone. Clammy fists crumble on handling the unsorted pile of unread.

One shots and severely delayed comics proving to be a relief as they shunt again toward the back, pushing up the monthlies that crank overtime and appear more often than not. Spider-Man is the main culprit here, with three series on the stacks. Skinning away at the mind, must resist the urge of inertia...

Amazing Spider-Man #515

Interesting read into the high school mind of Peter. A nerd who exhibits a jock-like mentality of sorts on the arrival of a super nerd; one taking the place of the resident, making Parker near invisible. Quite a good style with the two artists each handling the respective periods, more cutting than a simple toning down of hues as their stark lines bubble the feel of the moment and contrast against the other time frame. The sight of two editorial notes was particularly thrilling in a connected throwback sense.

Captain Gravity and the Power of the Vril #2

Brooding in self-pity and self-doubt throughout the entire issue, it wasn't exactly a sudden shift at the last few pages. The ads and extra in the back, now that's where this thing is really turning up the cranks, parodies and pre-existent realities always a time of lark. Two issues in and it almost seems as if the people who are into the know of the secret identity of Captain Gravity are fast-forwarding years, spreading their numbers by pages, to an extreme. Does leave things in a cliff hanger though, which is always good in comicbooks.

Ultimate Spider-Man #71

So this Doctor Strange is the son of his more mature and well-trained father. That works in the scheme of things. Spittle round of banter adds to that feeling of being out-of-depth for those involved. Run and read right against the issue before, it creates this bending loop of reality where the exactness of the here and now is still a little shaky, crippling the young webslinger.

Trigger #2

Ever a washout look on the art, the entire tone is of disbelief and uncertainty. Nothing could be what it is and the trick on memory plays on a familiar riff. The lies these people are involved in could be what's driving their motivation toward a reasonable expectaction for truth. But that's too easy. Bloody hands of a mystery continues along as would be the case for a follow up to the debut and a connection.

Marvel Knights Spider-Man #9

Unravelling like a bowl of noodles across a discussion on pasta, this tale is looking a little stringy. The supposed revelation of a certain mastermind behind all the games of the various decades past doing much to leave a bad taste after licking the pages.
