Late out on the train, a dash for the nap is close to the end and the next station is off again. Detour through the falling water in Darling Harbour before the entrance under the construction crane of the Powerhouse Museum in Pyrmont. Off a couple of free member's guest passes, the exhibition on show is On the box: great moments in Australian television 1956-2006.
Dim and shadowy lighting brings out a spooky aspect to the exhibition. Old and crinkly papers understandably taking in the soft lighting as to not roughen their conditions ever more so. Stepping into the carpet rides a kick against the knee, not all of the level level with the unseen bumps hiding in the dark ready to capture strides.
Beyond creepy costume from one particular children's looking really freaky. Ghoulish eyes bringing out the demonic soul within as the blackness rips right into the heart of softness.
Costumes, costumes and more costumes abound from one display to another. Gradual and smooth from one show to another, no sudden jumps in time or era to really speak of. The nose really rubs up close to almost touching the glass cabinets trying to pick out any loose threads.
Best of the interactive displays is a three player quiz on various eras of television with host Bob Downe. No quick trigger finger play, just the moderate punch and the answers for the latter period proving pretty damn easy.
Plaques and info slabs read well to serve, but with time on the other side of wrong, there're too many to take in. Cutting it down shy a full one and a half hours another corner or two is left undone with security warning stragglers about closing time in ten.
Loving television enough that spending an entire day inside strolling the exhibition is a great day indeed. Always open to finding more time for TV.
