Running under a number one gun

Comics

Spots of blood scab over the right side of the scalp. Three weeks remain and the hair finally comes clean again. Attempts to knock the body back in line with the clock of the sun and moon present an opportunity to sit down, read, and think about burning in a casket full of comics.

Fell #1

Flimsy and supple, well beyond holding its own, Fell is a dirty and raw comic thanks to both Ellis' curt writing and Templesmith's style of art. Pacing is a quick affair with no lingering for the corner store dealer. Satisfactorily finished by the turn of the last page.

Ultimate Spider-Man #80

Readers in the letters page are astounding in their pick up of details spanning 70 issues in the break. Background noise in the cafeteria of an earlier issue harking back well into the first. Impressive. As is the Kingpin spinning a deal that Spidey just cannot walk away from. Bendis and Bagley still keep punching out Parker's rather young and frisky nature to the whole superheroing business. The exchange in Jameson's office also manages to just sounds so aurally there, pitch and all.

Revelations #1

Charlie Northern, a burnt out cop brought into investigate a death at the Vatican, is 40 years old. Supposedly. Ramos lines Northern with a look more fitting for a teenager, maybe even early 30s. Nowhere at 40 though. Cooperation with the local law is going to be hard. Especially given that most of the evidence has been wiped clean by the time Northern gets to the Holy City. Very moody though, and dripping with a sense of secrecy that looks interesting. Caption boxes all over the place read rather overdone, the observations getting on the nerves after the first full page of notes.

New Avengers #1

Finally, after many months pass, a chance to read the New Avengers. Only if the rest of the crop were debuts and there seemed no better time to crack it open. Nothing appears to be happening until, of course, the last few pages wherein the action is about the burn through only to hit the back cover. Tempting for sure.

Sea of Red #1

Gory, awash with blood and lazy faces, this is a tale of zombies and pirates. Pirate zombies or zombie pirates. Whatever. Guts and blood are just so all over the place it's nothing if not living up to the lifestyle of the two genres; mixing their spit as they are.
