Shaven aftermath

Comics

When the head is shaved back and bare from hair, there is nothing but the shivering cold of air to keep things hurting. Then there is the flooding expanse of consuming many comicbooks within a single session...

The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II #2

Concluding the crossover between the worlds of Springfield and Planet Express, it's as if the events of the first were merely inconsequential. An afterthought not really needed to play with this scene of the crime. Of course, with the aid of the deus ex machina, the problem of the entire "fictional characters as slaves" wipes itself up good and clean. The use of references within their own realms serving to bring about a better read in continuity to events outside of. Things just are.

Marvel Knights Spider-Man #10

Listening to a multitude of theme songs rings "where everybody knows your name" as the events of this chapter breaks down. The mere presence of Black Cat in Peter and Mary's relationship fittingly brings up conflict, but to the point of referencing another feline inspired heroine? Too many cats on the brain Spidey.

Freedom Force #3

Clearly they cannot stand to stand still in the town of Liberty. Even more new characters appear from the corners of the page like welfare mothers shooting out baby bonuses. Flashes here and there are all they are allowed for and the over arching plot still shimmers with an absolute crazy foolhardiness. Clarity and sense seem to have flown out the window, a sheer dive right into a madcap sense all that looks to have survived. Why then will the hands inevitably reach for the fourth issue?

Frank Ironwine #1

Warren Ellis, sticks it to those forensic investigation shows like CSI and its clones. Harks back to a time when crime fiction was about the people and not the resolute line on evidence. Nicely walks a path between having all the answers laid right out to having them totally obscured behind a conceited ploy to appear magnificent. Ironwine is just this great foil for the city, a broken man still fighting for the truth in a mere trenchcoat that doesn't hide a vacuum sealed "pervert suit" underneath. Tight and rewarding.
