Spider-Man 3

Third instalment of the series and a clear delimiter on the entire franchise saga to this very point. Where all the players in the game are the same and their faces are recognisable for they are now these characters. Stories and threads and plot lines all wrap up nicely with a view to a sigh that needs no extra breath, and yet can many others to follow.

J.K. Simmons, a treat as always in the guise of J. Jonah Jameson. Bryce Dallas Howard, spitting image of Gwen Stacy, fine competition for the looks of Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane. Bruce Campbell again absolutely shines in his role, again differing from previous incarnations. No one, however, comes close to the fact that James Franco as Harry Osborn is the best actor in this arc of the mythology.

Action sequences start up quick and there is a noticeable fluidity and confidence to the skills of Spider-Man. More sure of himself, more in tune with his abilities and powers. Powerfully splendid swinging around sets as the natural born web slinger. Spidey shoots his impact webbing with such defiant skill to make Ben Reilly proud. Kinetic and fast moving, just like Spider-Man knows he can deliver. Neck is worse for wear keeping up with the magnificent battle sequences, the stuff of genius.

Venom and Sandman are absolutely brilliant in their appearance and character. Formation of their background histories and motives certainly not the kind of thing to rush about in. All work into the continuity and grumblings are sure to arise. Not enough to over throw the merit of their work though.

From the start and it's all on the up and up. A heart warming piece no doubt, as conclusions find a way to sing the final notes, bowing out on a high and waiting to hear the screams for more.
