Dead empty in the stands for the preliminary game before the West Sydney Razorbacks try their hand against the Sydney Kings. Not many people gearing up for an early night out of sports entertainment. Four tickets with a letter only mentioning two. Double free with all three waiting for the tip off between the men to grab a seat.
Netball rings set up for the challenge between the Sydney TAB Swifts and the Sydney Uni Flames. Some look fresh out of high school and others on the end of uni. All up they still look younger than the cheerleaders.
Netball on the first half and the pros blow away the ballers. A huge lead into the second when the nets go down and the backboards jump up. And even then the Swifts hold their own. Though it is mostly the Flames doing all the scoring. And score they do, but tight and within a small frame of time to just beat the score by three. Basketball edges over Netball 75 to 73.
Two seats and then the third. They finally come filing along with the rest of the stadium. Still dead on the ends with a small yet loud crowd.
Kings and Razorbacks. The second half of The Battle of Sydney. As is on the ticket. Slow and chaotic start to the game. Rough and with no apparent organisation. Scores move with more pace as the lead changes constantly in the first quarter. From the second it pretty much takes a back seat as the Pigs chase the Kings into the final quarter.
Graeme Dann starts to start a fight with Mark Worthington. Nothing there, the civility of captain Jason Smith and others keeping the blood inside the people. Razorbacks do put up a fight in the final though. The cut the margin from ten to shaving a double two. Unfortunately for them they miss out and are unable to top the board. Kings win with 110 over 99 and everybody keeps their teeth.
