TNC 6: Teriyaki Boy in Balmain

Northbound and the line at the QVB fluctuates never to nil. Outward toward Balmain, and the rough destination suffers from not being on the sketchy notes making up a map in the back pocket. One muttering ahead heads for Balmain Town Hall and the join is on. Leaves quite early though, having made contact with a late comer onto the bus, tailing this makes on sense. Close enough on the main road nonetheless.
Walking all the way west, blocks away from the wharf and it's a back track up Darling Road to find Teriyaki Boy. Early lingering in parts unknown, at one stage passing Lote Tuqiri, and it's pretty much on time at the Japanese restaurant for one end of year Christmas dinner.
Hours are short for the restaurant; four on for five of the week, a tight schedule with space to match. Tables are quick to fill with bodies, bookings making them all the more set aside. Eight fits easy on the wood, a few spots to spare for hanging buckets of ice.
Food on order hits the menus in hands and on the chalkboard. Specials, rearrangements and the options for Japanese cuisine read over and over again. Pork belly, gyozas and yakitoris break in the tongue after the teasers of nikkologashi. Quick to start, quick to end, the starters start at the end and finish before the blinking begins.
Revving it up for the Dinner box for one. A long box of flavours picking up a few of the tastes around the blocks of the menu with teriyaki, tempura, sushi and miso soup. Switching from one compartment to the other and back across another makes the meal a haphazard affair for the tongue to keep up and play with.
Wasabi makes the plastic head explode. Ever more so straight after a shot of soy sauce. Never enough of the expansion that feels never ending.
Bananas on the night, in appearances at two of the desserts, run short. Cut into allocations, three go two and another slides in with sesame ice cream. Two hours later and the restaurant is empty to close save for that one table.
