Trinket expedition at the Careers Expo

Freeload

Minutes just after noon, waking up from another ride into the city, yellow MyCareer bags crawl all over the place in Darling Harbour. Oldies, kids and in between and all with this look of needing to be somewhere else. Away from the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre halls. Away from all the chatter, screams and back pack slamming school kids.

Ferocious, the battle to snatch and grab the trinkets and freebies from the exhibitors is intense. Sweating up a salt storm, the high schoolers make it harder to navigate when they park themselves, standing and sitting in camps all over the place.

Speed is crucial and key. Too slow and there is nothing left to walk away with. Too quick and the booths try and make interesting inquiry conversation to quiet out the time between fill ups.

Lingering just a scant tad too long is enough for them to consider imparting some knowledge, however it be, of their lot and organisation. Leaflets and entry forms all sing to sign away the chance to score an iPod. Fake names and partially true addresses, it's time away from getting out.

The Careers and Employment Expo, for another year and another swag bag. Jewels of the day are slim. A yo-yo from Australia Post (convincing the postie to give away his display use yo-yo is challenging and horrendous) and pads of paper from JobSearch are useful. Ill fitting pens and bottle openers far less so.

A late afternoon double back to hit through another round proves unfortunate. Scaffolds and breakdowns already cranking down the stalls, an empty vision through the glass doors.
